Pigs grow very quickly so, with a long production schedule, it was necessary to have a few animal doubles. Each pig could only be filmed for a three-week period before they grew too large for the character. Miller would have six large white Yorkshire piglets bred at a time for each three-week period, resulting in a total of 48 pigs. Footage of 46 of the pigs made the final cut. There was also one animatronic pig that was used for wide shots because there was nowhere for the animal trainer to hide.
